Happy Birthday you big blue dude!!

Seven Halloween Costumes

Truth Time!

I have been a lot of things for Halloween in my life.  As I'm sure you have...but I feel like mine were particularly amazing.

Truth be told though, I'm not crazy about Halloween. I like it - in a simple way.  I'm much more of a Christmas kind of girl.  Watch out for December - really.

Let's talk about my favorite costumes from my life.

Seven Halloween Costumes
  • The Riddler(from Batman) - I have a strange love for superheros and comic books.  Thanks to my dad, I'm sure.  I was in a green one piececostume with question marks all over it and had a gold glittery bowler hat on.  And a mask too I think.  So cool.  Just like Jim Carey.
  • Nerd - This was a costume when I was in middle school.  Rainbow suspenders, pocket protector, pants pulled way up and masking tape on the bridge of my glasses.
  • Cyclops(X-Men) - See The Riddler!  Cyclops was always my favorite mutant.  I never cared for Wolverine like everyone else.  I had to always pick my favorite - and nobody else could have the same favorite as mine.
  • Catwoman(Batman) - ANOTHER comic book character?  How awesome!  I don't know why I was catwoman.  I don't like cats.  I never liked her.  I'd rather be batman.  My brother once had an awesome batman costume that looked like he was walking around in the batmobile.  Awesome.  I was(and still am) so very jealous.
  •  Nerd - I was this last year again, but I bought all my wardrobe at Goodwill and plan to re-wear it in the future.  Its a great go-to costume for me because it comes so easy to me.  I have a knack for being a nerd.  Go Figure.
  • Athlete - Best costume ever pulled from my normal attire and stuff I owned.  KM made me dress up when we were living in Vegas.  Insert track suit + high ponytail and VOILA! Instant costume.
  • Next Year's Costume - OMG you guys, I'm gonna have an amazing costume next year.  I'm ready for it.  I need to buy lots of eyeliner.  That's why its next years costume.
Tell me about your costumes!  Were you ever anything embarassing?  Come back and I'll tell you a favorite costume category of mine...

Seven Flavors Of Kool-Aid

I love Kool-Aid.

I really do.  I always have and even in my mid twenties, there is still a pitcher in my refrigerator.

It has many uses these days.  Coloring your hair, coloring yarn, scenting and flavoring homemade lip balm and other crafty things.  Also you can drink it.

I miss the commercials and the pitcher mascot.  Do you remember him?  Let me jog your memory:
image found here
 Seven Kool-Aid Flavors:
  1. Cherry - Far and above the greatest flavor ever.  Bright red and delicious its hard to not drink the entire pitcher.  This flavor is always in my house.  I am religious about it.
  2. Black Cherry - A great flavor as well, more refined.  The grown up twist on the regular cherry.
  3. Tropical Punch - I honestly don't know what flavors make this up, and I won't look it up because I don't want to discover banana ingredients.  It was a salmony shade of red and deliciously refreshing.  This flavor was always at my grandma's house in my memories.
  4. Grape - I love grape flavored things.  Some people really hate them, but I love them.  Grape soda, grape candy, grape cough syrup, and of course grape kool-aid.
  5. Pink Lemonade - I thought this was how you made lemonade forever.  Until I learned that you actually can make lemonade from lemons, those sour fruits that grew in our backyard.  My mind was blown and things were never the same.
  6. Lemon Lime  - I am a fan of this flavor combo.  I like that it combines them both, I like that its crisp and refreshing and I really like that it doesn't stain my clothes like cherry or grape.  Much lighter and easier to deal with.  Yes, I am a slob, get over it.
  7. Orange - Almost as good as those Hi-C juice boxes but not quite there.  Extra sweet to me and a definitely delicious flavor.
Please excuse me as I need to go whip up a gallon of the secret family recipe kool-aid since I just drank all of mine...  Wanna know the secret? Sorry Dad, I'm giving it away: 1 packet cherry, 1 packet black cherry, 2c sugar, water, mix.  Chill, add ice and serve.

Seven Reasons I Love/Hate The DVR

Heya!

Do you have a DVR?

I know a crazy family that had 4 at one time.  That family happens to be mine.  Hey mom and dad!

Anyways, my own house has had a DVR since I moved back to AZ from Vegas and I have a love/hate relationship with it.  It extends to TV as a whole too, sometimes.

Am I the only one?  Does this ridiculous takeover by the cable companies and machines freak anyone else out? Just me? Cool.

We have a DVR and ever since the fall shows have returned KM and I are having trouble keeping up!  There are shows on our DVR still from SEPTEMBER.  This is crazy.  We are slaves to the machine.  Let me explain.

Seven Facets Of My Love/Hate Relationship With My DVR

  • Social Life Speedbumps.  My massive social schedule is interrupted on a daily basis by my DVR screaming my name.  Its like "Devyn, I have shows for youuuuuuu and I'm recording more today!".
  • Backwards. Isn't that backwards though?  Shouldn't my DVR be freeing up my social time, not stepping into it?  It should be letting me live my life because I don't need to be tethered to my TV to watch my programs.
  • Entitlement. The DVR has created a sense of entitlement in those of us that have one.  I am entitled to watch all of my shows, and how dare the president interrupt my sitcoms?  I can watch all the shows, not just one per time slot.  I MUST watch all the shows.  I don't have to pick just one, that's absurd.  I can't believe that stupid dancing show ran late into my medical drama tonight.
  • Tethered To The Machine.  I can admit it.  My DVR runs my life.  When I take a weekend trip to Tucson, I make sure I take out the trash, pack my clothes and clear some space on the dang DVR.  Oh yeah and water the plants and make sure to turn the AC up.  But the DVR is definitely in the top 3 things I worry about when I leave my house overnight.  What the heck is up with that?!(I love it.)
  • Addiction To Shows.  It used to be I would catch a show when I had the time.  I would be kind of funny on the story lines and character happenings.  I would try to catch up but mostly I would just be content with watching an hour of funny time.  Now I watch everything and get angry if I missed anything, especially if it was the machine's fault.
  • Couch Time.  I spend all my time on the couch/my recliner.  Watch TV all the time.  Not live though, never ever live.  Watching commercials?  Are you kidding me?  That is for the people without DVRs.  Sorry marketing companies, I don't care for your 30 second sales pitches.
  • My Wallet Hates Me.  See, I get the DIY network.  I watch tons of the shows on this network.  Then I want to go and do it myself(get it?) and then my wallet suffers.  I see Mr. Muenster rip up a bathroom and install a killer shower with body jets and I want to run out to Home Depot right away.
Do you love your DVR?  Or do you hate it?  I can't decide if I love it or hate it more.  Discuss in the comments please, my valued readers.

Seven: Gumby Edition

Art Clokey created a masterpiece known as Gumby.  Behold:

Aren't they awesome?

Today would have been Art Clokey's 90th Birthday.  Sadly he passed away in 2010 on Elvis Presley's birthday.

See that connection?  I was MEANT to love Gumby.

My dad really enjoyed Gumby.  He passed that love onto my brothers and I.  My youngest brother loved him the best. We used to watch the episodes on VHS over and over again, together.  It was so awesome.  I remember it with such fondness, my brothers will probably tell me I'm crazy.

Seven Gumby Characters
  • Gumby.  The finest stop motion animation clay character around.  The slanty headed green dude is the star of the show.  His voice is crazy, his feet are big and he is awesome!  Nicest guy around and always looking for an adventure.
  • Pokey.  Gumby's faithful sidekick.  This red horsey is probably the only horse I have ever liked.  He is a bit of a skeptic but appreciates Gumby's adventures I think.  Silly horse.
  • Goo.  The blue blob of goo with hair and a bow on her head.  She is like a mermaid on land.  She is very cool calm and collected and always looking out for her friends Prickle, Gumby, and Pokey.  She was never my favorite though, sorry Goo!
  • Prickle.  The little yellow dinosaur guy!  I love when he acts like a detective and puts that hat on and smokes a pipe.  So cute!  His voice is awesome and so perfect for the character.  Him and goo roll together, maybe they were in love?  One can hope...
  • The Blockheads.  The evil dudes, twin blockheads.  K and J? G and L?  Something like that...they are bright red which is obviously an evil color.  They are always trying to mess with Gumby and his pals.  Good thing good always wins.
  • Minga.  She's the pink one with green hair!  She is actually Gumby's little sister.  I don't really have much to say about her.  She was kinda just there for me.
  • Gumba and Gumbo.  These are Gumby(and Minga's) parents.  They are red.  Why? Who knows.  Also they have amazing names!  Their voices were also top notch.
Now, go watch Gumby, I'm off to go watch the best episodes!!!

Seven Favorite Rugrats Characters

When I was younger, loved to watch the Rugrats.

Do you remember them?  You gotta at least remember the theme song, right?  Herc talked about it in his wildly popular Devo post.  Check it out, we'll wait.

Anyways this show about the shennanigans these toddlers would get into was just so entertaining to me.  It actually still is.  Sometimes you can find re-runs on late at night on Nickelodeon.  I like to DVR them and watch them over and over again.  Then KM deletes is.

Seven Favorite Characters From Rugrats (not just the kids)

  • Chuckie Finster - He was always my favorite.  His awesome voice and his sweet outfit were always in style.  I love how cautious he always is, such a cutie.  He was always the perfect sidekick to Tommy.
  • Tommy Pickles - Easily the leader of the pack of rats(see what I did there?).  He is fearless and awesome.  He also rocked that light blue shirt like a boss.  Also his last name is Pickles.
  • Phil DeVille - The total dude of the show.  He keeps bugs in his diaper and other gross things.  He is Lil's twin brother and they are both always down for whatever adventure Tommy had in mind.  He also has a totally cool voice for a kid.
  • Lil DeVille - Lil is Phil's sister.  She is kinda cooky and totally silly.  She is incredible and was my number two favorite.  The only Rugrats merchandise I own is a magnet of Lil and she lives on my fridge.
  • Dil Pickles - Tommy's little brother has the best name on the entire show.  Dil Pickles.  He doesn't do much but he still manages to be an awesome character.  Tommy looks out for him like a champ and is such a good big brother.  I guess Dil is a lucky guy!
  • Angelica Pickles - She is Tommy and Dil's cousin.  She is the rival and bad girl on the show.  She is a scheming devil and I kinda loved it.  She loved the kids at the end of the day, but also terrorized them like there was no tomorrow.
  • Stu Pickles - This is Tommy and Dil's dad.  Angelica's uncle.  He's an inventor and completely bonkers.  But, he loves his wife and family and everything he does is for them.  He's a wonderful dad and really anchors the show.

Did anyone enjoy the Rugrats as much as I did?  Is my obsession unhealthy?  Oh well.

Seven Dwarfs

If you know me in the real life, you know how much I love little people.  I am so incredibly fascinated by them and their life sytles.

Its not a gross thing, its not a mean spirited thing.  Its just a simple curiosity.  In a full grown woman.

I watched that TV show with the Roloff family on TLC.  Two little people had three regular children and one dwarf, so crazy!  How do you take your mom and dad seriously if you tower over them at 6 years old?!

I also love smart cars.  Is this related?

Anywho, today since I'm feeling lazy(sorry) I decided to prioritize my list of the seven dwarfs from the Disney version of Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs.  Maybe you have a different list?

This is the blog entry that will win me many prizes and awards.  Accolades will abound!

Not really.

At all.

Seven Dwarfs
  1. Dopey
  2. Bashful
  3. Happy
  4. Sleepy
  5. Sneezy
  6. Doc
  7. Grumpy

Seven Awesome Patents

Steve Jobs passed away today. He has certainly left his mark on the world in many ways.  He was too young to leave this earth but just imagine how futuristic the afterlife is going to be by the time the rest of us get there!!!  Exciting.  Things have to be much more affordable up there too, right?

I am not going to turn this blog into an obituary for the man, there are enough all over the interwebs.  I waned to make everyone aware of this really cool piece put together by the New York Times. This Story shows you all of the patents that have Steven P. Jobs on them.  There are 317 of them.  Three hundred and seventeen different patents.  They span the spectrum from desktop computers, laptop computers, media devices(ipods and apple tv), telephones, all the way to the packaging that all of Apple's most innovative products have arrived in and then back to keyboards, mice, displays, operating systems, and even clear glass staircases.

Its amazing for me to read about what this man was a part of in his too-short lifetime.  317 patents in his 56 year life.  What would happen if he hadn't gotten sick and lived to be 85.  Almost 30 more years, I bet he'd have 1000 patents to his name.

Its a really strange way to remember somebody's life, in the patents they are credited to.  That's just how I roll here at 7w/D.

Seven Awesome Patents That List Mr. Jobs As One Of The Inventors

  1. The iPad.  Yep.
  2. Every iPod ever.  Nobody ever enjoyed themselves like they enjoy themselves with an iPod in their pocket and headphones in their ears.  At least I never did.
  3. The glass staircases at the Apple stores.  He has several patents for these and its just amazing to me.
  4. The iMacs from back in the day that everyone in my generation lusted after.  The ones that were kinda clear and had a bright color accent.  I wanted teal or orange.
  5. The awesome plastic packages that iPhones and iPods come in these days.  So. Freaking. Cool.
  6. The power adapters that we all have at our homes.  The white square ones where the power prongs fold out and the cord detaches.  Neat.
  7. The iTunes interface.  Sleek, sophisticated, cool, sexy.  Yes I said it.

A bit of a simple entry, not unlike apples home page devoted to Mr. Jobs today with this photo(borrowed from apple.com):

Seven Freeway Driving Tips

What is today's date?
10-4.

Does that mean anything to you, out there?

To me, its the greatest day of the year to flaunt my ridiculous love of Citizens Band(CB) radio jargon.  You heard me.

Affirmitive, I enjoy this lingo more than I should.

I have put together some tips for driving on the freeway, with a very stong CB jargon influence.  Enjoy!

Or at least, don't laugh at me.
Seven Freeway Driving Tips (heavily influenced by CB lingo)
  1. Don't be a four wheel phone booth.  You know what this means, right?  Don't talk on the phone while you are driving.  To use the phrase in a sentence, try this:  "roger we've got a four wheel phone booth just past the choke and puke on the big 10, steer clear good neighbor"
  2. Look out for gators in the road and be careful around the gator guts.  This is the most used CB phrase in my world, outside of the classic "10-4".  A gator is the tread of  a blown out tire in the road.  Gator guts are the shredded remains of a blown out tire.  Guts are mostly harmless and the gators are generally large pieces.  They are truly dangerous, so be careful around gators!
  3. Don't be bear bait.  You know what a bear is?  Police.  You know like:  couny mounty, astronaut, blue lights, boy scouts, city kitty, evil knivel, honey bear, kojack with a kodak, paper hangers, and tijuana taxis.  I've had my fair share of bear bites and strongly suggest you avoid getting speeding tickets.   This is coming from a retired jet pilot.
  4. Respect the hammer lane and the granny lanes.  If you feel the need to put the hammer down, ride in the hammer lane - otherwise stick to the granny lane.  Nothing annoys your fellow drivers more than disrespecting these conventions.
  5. When you start checking your eyes for pinholes, take a cue and stop at the local nap trap.  Driving when you're tired is never a good plan, stop at a roadside motel and catch a few z's.
  6. Keep your tank full of that go-go juice.  Nobody should run out of gas, if the sign says 50+miles to the next stop, evaluate and maybe refill the tank.  Walking several miles just for some motion lotion is completely preventable.
  7.  Don't be a bumper sticker.  Bears will get ya for this, if you don't get yourself into a bit of an ooooops first.  Tailgating is very dangerous especially on the big road where you are often doing the double nickel or more!  Be safe out there!

Devyn out in the Sticker patch - over and out, come back(in the comments)!

I'm not as awesome as you may think, I had to look up a lot of this lingo and was completely helped by this site

Seven Characters From The Lion King

Hey you, how are you?

Thank you for reading, I appreciate it very much.  Keep comin' back!

So, The Lion King is in theaters again.  This means you should stop reading this right now and go catch it on the big screen.

A major favorite of mine my whole childhood and still a movie I watch pretty often.  I've never met anyone who doesn't like this movie.  There are so many levels and it appeals to all people in one way or another.

I saw it today, guys.  It was amazing.  Honestly,  I had almost no expectations and it blew my mind.  A movie whose characters graced my bedsheets as a kid, it should be good, right?  Yep, it was good.  It was so good it was GREAT.  Its only on for another week so go check it out while you have the chance.

The chance to see it on the big screen is worth the ten bucks it might cost.  So very worth it, ya'll.  I can't even put into words how it made me feel (obviously).  So I'm gonna tell you about my favorite characters and hope the words come to me.

Seven Favorite Characters From The Lion King

  • Rafiki.  Easily my favorite character by FAR.  Such a crazy dude, I wanted one when I was younger and want to be like him now.  He was a respected character and in with the right people.  He somehow knew that Simba was alive at the exact moment they needed him the most and he motivated that stubborn lion to return to his home and destiny.  Also his crazy songs and dancing make me feel a little better about myself when I'm home alone.
  • Timon.  To me as a kid I was so very annoyed with him and his voice.  As I grew up I learned to love and appreciate Nathan Lane's amazing vocal abilities.  He's a wiseguy and a true wise guy.  Also he's friends with Pumba so he can't be too bad, right?
  • Pumba.  I love this guy!  I love when he sings "I'm a sensitive soul though I seem thick skinned" because it pretty much sums me up.  Also that's like the best song to belt when you are in the car.  Or shower.  Or semi empty movie theater as a 24 year old.
  • Simba.  Most adorable lion cub, turns into a cute lion kid who then runs away.  Then he meets two awesome creatures.  He avoids his past(who hasn't).  Eventually he goes back to his destiny and real life.  He also gets the girl and the handsome lion looks.  Go Simba!
  • Nala.  Easily the most awesome lioness ever.  She kicked Simba-cub's butt when they were kids.  She kicked his butt again when he was Simba-man.  I love me a strong woman.
  • Mufasa.  Do I need to tell you why he's awesome?  He is Mufasa!  DUH!
  • Scar. Bad, bad lion.  Clever, evil man.  I admire some great creativity and smart leadership over the masses.  Is that wrong?  So sue me.
Who are your favorite characters from The Lion King? That bird thing?  Wished it had flew in front of my windshield.  Said it.  Meant it.

Seven Yesterday (Friday) Happenings

Saturday.

I like to work on the weekends. Isn't that weird?

While I'm at work today, I want to share a seven part story.

Its my day off (Friday) told in the 7w/D format...I just ran with an idea.

I'm trying something new here.  Let me know what you think.  It also brings the intro of a new tag: "TMI".  I'm excited.
Seven Friday Happenings (in order of AWESOMEness):

7.  I took a shower. It was a normal shower.  Nothing special to report here, but I did exit my wet washing into a clean fresh from the dryer towel.  That took a mundane shower to the awesome level.  I have never loved a dryer more than I loved it yesterday, and you will soon see why.

6.  I cleaned my entire bathroom/closet/bedroom area.  If you have ever been to my house, you'd know that this is a single unit.  Behind door #1 is my bedroom AND door #2.  Behind door #2 is my bathroom(pun completely intended) AND door #3.  Behind door #3 is my entire shoe collection AND the rest of my closet.  I can't just clean my closet and skip the rest or just my bathroom.  It is a group event.  And it is a great feeling once its all clean and sparkly.

5.  I paid bills.  This is normally nowhere near my awesome meter.  It usually falls under the "grumble grumble" category.  However, dear readers, for the first time since summer began, I have money to spare.  To my infamous "water fund" it goes!  Water Softener or BUST!  In case you were wondering my next home improvement project is water.  New water heater plus valves and junk there, capping old irrigation lines in my front yard, installing a water softener loop and actual softener.  There is a lot of little things that I am doing here too but I don't want to bore you.  Then I can start having fun again, like buying a dishwasher!

4.  I had french toast sticks for breakfast.  As some may know, I am off of fast food, soda, cereal and general deliciousness.  I have embarked on a healthier lifestyle.  I feel great because of it, my wallet is much happier, and my scale is very confused.  Yesterday on a whim I had french toast sticks from the BK Lounge.  I expected an awful surprise, since its been so long.  Guess what? They ruled.

3.  I washed my pillows and my pillow top mattress cover.  Fluffy things that had gone flat made me sad.  I could clearly see where my body was and where i liked to lay my (pretty) head to rest.  So I washed them.  Then I dried them in my dryer that I love.  They are downy fresh now and I am happier than I should be over this.

2.  I washed my sheets!  Easily the best thing I did all day, right?  Guess again.  I figured out I need a second set of sheets.  Its on my list.  Until then I have to wash and remake my bed over the course of the day.  Yesterday with washing the other stuff too, it took ALL DAY.  I had to make my bed before I could crawl into it when I wanted.  But the smell, the fluff factor and the general cleanliness was completely worth it.  I should have paid myself, it was that good.  Where's my checkbook?

1.  I replaced my roll of toilet paper.  This is another one that sounds stupid and misplaced on this list.  But it is absolutely where it needs to be.  Let me explain.  I used the restroom earlier in the day before I cleaned it and noticed the roll was getting low.  Usually that is the last stop for that train.  NOT YESTERDAY, FRIENDS!  I finished up, washed up and took a fresh roll from its home and set it in the throne room for the next time when I would certainly polish off that roll.  I thanked myself later because it was the single smartest thing I had done all day and treated myself to a car wash for being so. damn. awesome.

Seven Bridesmaids Quotes

HEY!

Miss me?  I missed you.

Today my current favorite movie came out.  Its hilarious.  Its called Bridesmaids.

I saw it the day it came out, during the time I was recovering from a tailbone injury.

Note to self: Do not take the stairs on your bottom, for you will not like the next two months.

Tailbone injuries hurt in just about every position, mostly when seated(like in a movie theater).

They kinda hurt way worse when laughing or coughing or sneezing but mostly laughing(like in a movie theater).

It was the most painful two hours I have ever paid to enjoy.  It was the funniest movie!  SO WORTH IT!!!

Anyways I own it and I gotta tell you about it.

So there's a wedding.  Bridesmaids.  Barf.  Wilson Philips.  Puppies.  Poop.  Baking.  Drinking.  A cute cop.  Pretty much the best movie ever.

IF you have the audacity to have missed its run in theaters, go see it now!  Get on down to the Blockbuster and rent that blu-ray, yo!(PS! Its exclusively for rent only at Blockbuster until October 18 when it'll be at Redbox and Netflix.)

Seven Quotes From Bridesmaids

  • "I'm glad he's single because I'm going to climb that like a tree. "
  • "Do you want to tell a cop about it? We're just like priests except we would tell everybody after wards."
  • "This is the first time I've seen you look ugly, and that makes me happy!"
  • "It's happening?!.....It happened. "
  • "I want to apologize...I'm not even confident on which end that came out of...  "
  • "Really quick! Speaking of Consuela, Lillian and I took Spanish together in school. And so, I would just like to say to you and to everyone here, "Gracias para vivir en la casa, en la escuelas, en el azul... markada. Tienes con bibir en las Fortuasla?" and gracias! "
  • "I've seen better tennis playing in a tampon commercial."

I haven't laughed so hard in my entire life.  I need to go watch this again.  NOTHING can make me laugh like this...except maybe Raising Hope.  Now THAT'S a TV show, people.

Nope, they aren't paying me to go on and on about this movie.  No, I'm not gonna explain the quotes for fear of ruining the experience.  No I do not speak Spanish - nor can I spell it.  No I didn't look these up for accuracy, they are paraphrased from MY MEMORY.  Lastly, no you may not put this movie in the same class as those stupid hangover flicks.  No. Way.

***Blockbuster doesn't pay me either...***

Seven Guilty Pleasures

Hi!

Welcome to pre-Wednesday.  Post-Monday.  Also known as Tuesday.

Today I don't have one of my pre planned posts.  I am writing this one off the cuff.  I like to do it that way every once in a while. Can you tell the difference?

Between my stream of thought posts vs. my pre meditated posts?

You'll soon have a few days break from me and my words, though!  I'm about to take a week off and you'll be graced with several posts by my friends and avid fans of this blog.

Get.

Excited.

In the meantime, I've got my guilty pleasures for ya!

Seven Guilty Pleasures

Lazy Days. I used to hate sitting around doing nothing all day.  Especially since I bought my house. There is always something to be done or to be doing. I always liked to be out and around too which normally led to me spending money unnecessarily. Nowadays I've figured out a couple things: stay at home = cheap. Do nothing for an entire day = allowed every once in a while because all those "things" will still be there tomorrow.

Thin Mints. Girl scout cookies. Do I really need to explain this? I've eaten an entire box in a sitting before. This taught me two things: 1) I'm a fatty!  Which is kinda amazing when you think about it. That's like 40 cookies.  2) I have a high tolerance for guilt, as in I feel bad about it for a bit but get over it. This is a great development.

Trips To Home Depot. Sounds silly, I know. I spent a lot of money here over the past 15 months. I love tools, I love doing all of my own home improvement. Going here is a massive test of my ability to NOT buy things.  I go when I'm alone and I wander for too long. I carry things around and most of the time I put them back.  So weird, right? Not if you know me...

Breakfast For Dinner. I've had a torrid love affair with french toast as long as I can remember.  And pancakes.  And waffles.  And toast.  Don't forget the sausage and bacon too.  Smothered in syrup.  Oh yeah.  Forget breakfast for dinner, I'm thinking breakfast or starvation.

Chick Flicks/Rom-Com's. My personality doesn't really work with this notion.  If you know me really well, as the entire interwebs is about to, its no secret that I am a big ol' romantic.  I have seen my faves WAY too many times to mention.  I have fantasies about my life turning into its own little chick flick/romantic love story.  I've got the -com part DOWN, ya'll.

Being Right.  Maybe I shouldn't say this.  Probably I will look like a giant ass when I say this.  Could it be I'm just saying what a lot of people don't like to admit?  I love to be right.  I love to be correct.  I rarely argue a point I'm not certain of.  I don't like to prove people wrong or be mean about it, but I like to be right at the end of the day.  Are we still friends?

No Pants Day, all the days.  Yep.  I said it.  This probably falls under the category of too much information.  When I am home, and alone I generally am in my chonies.  Skivvies.  Underroos.  Whatever you call them.  I don't know where this fixation came from, have a few ideas, but that's not for you to know.

Methinks you know too much anyways.

See ya in a week!

Seven Toys I Will Never Buy (but totally want!)

Hey there.

Have I told you lately that I love you?

Cause I do.  I love when you all come around and check out this silly little blog.  I love the comments and I love the support.

I wish you'd tell all your friends about this, but I guess its okay that you don't because I love you anyways.

You keep coming back for more, so I guess you're expecting another set of seven?

Fine fine.  Let's talk about toys.  I'm pretty nerdy, also a pretty nerd when I try.  I love technology (most days).  I love the newest gadget and generally always want one.  There are just not enough dollars in a day, my friends!  And sometimes I prefer to spend that money on more useful things like a new air conditioner or food or whatever. Most favorite toy I have?  Kindle.  Yes.

If i was a kajillionaire, I'd have everything I ever wanted and so would my family and friends.  I hate to break it to you, I'm not a kajllionaire.  Sorry.

Seven Toys I Will Never Buy (but totally want!)

  • iPhone.  I like the white one but think any of the sweet ColorWare options would be totally fine by me! I don't even have an iPod Touch or whatever the proper spelling is for that.  But i love apps...and toys.
  • SegwayPretty much the coolest thing ever.  I have drooled over them for ages and would LOVE to ride one.  The security team at my work has them and they're always zooming by, looks like so much fun!  Guess what, you can totally have a custom one thanks to ColorWare!  This Just In:  I went to their site to get that link, and OMG there are so many different varieties.  I must have one!
  • iPad.  The first one, the second one. Any of them, I'll take it.  So easy to use and just plain fun. The folks at Apple are definitely doing something right.  Also you can have them painted too, just get lost at that ColorWare site...
  • Any Dyson Vaccuum.  For their hefty price tag, they must be something special right?  They clean the floor, but they cost 50x more than a broom?  But why?  Who am I kidding, I don't care, I just want one!  I'd even settle for the air blade hand dryer like at IKEA!
  • MacBook Air.  Ever since I saw that commercial where the armless hands pulled this computer out of an envelope I have wanted one.  Way to go marketing!  I'll never forget the first time I saw one.  It was in a Best Buy.  Our eyes locked from across the room.  I headed over to the beacon drawing me in.  The first touch was sublime and I immediately knew I would never be the same.  How do they do it?  Its so SMALL!
  • THIS Refrigerator.  It has a touch screen.  It has apps.  Its a computer in a refrigerator.  Consider my mind blown.  Its only $3600!!! What a deal.
  • Canon Rebel.  Or any fancy camera, I don't know the difference.  I have always harbored a secret dream to be a photographer.  Making things look better in film than they could ever look in person.  That's like true magic.  I don't know my f-stop from my white balance though, so its sort of silly that I want one.  Call me crazy!

This list is a not so subtle hint.  My birthday is in two weeks, please try to keep it a secret which item from this list you are buying me.

Do tell me what items you want that are beyond your budget?

Seven on Technology

Hey. Just do me a favor today and click past this post and onto your next bookmark.

This is sure to be my worst post because I'm gonna sound like a whiny brat. (that is what I feel like today too!)

Today is all about technology. That devil spawned creation.

Without further ado...

Seven on Technology

- IT SUCKS! My trusty little red netbook crashed yesterday. Out of the blue. For no apparent reason. I'm very capable of fixing my techno-infused issues. Not this time. I've invested over 12 hours already and I'm PISSED!!!

- I hate how connected to it I am. Or the whole word is for that matter. It broke down and it ruined my day. I have an excellent desktop computer that I built, but my portable couch computer breaks and I'm a mess. How did I get here?

- I have a curse, I think. I tweeted last night that I wanted to be a professional blogger, even put it on my Facebook status. I was inspired by bloggers I follow whose blog was crashed after a wildly popular post. And then my computer crashed.

- I love it. I love being connected to the world, I really am a big fan of technology but when it breaks I wanna chuck it out the window real bad. Love and hate, I tell ya!

- I also broke my old laptop many years ago. I still have it, I can't get rid of it. I'm determined that I can fix it's booboos. But guess what, I can't and even if I could, it's not worth it anymore since it is past it's prime. Maybe it's a Devyn thing, but it's the sentimental connection. So as soon as I finish this, I'm gonna wipe it clean and finally part ways with it. We've had our fun, right?

- Technology is amazing though if you think about it. I traveled across the country several times back and forth thousands of miles and this netbook survives. Somehow something else took it out and broke it down. Isn't it weird? Tough, physically but alwyays vulnerable.

- About a month ago my phone tried to take a crap and die too. I fixed it. If I can fix that, I can fix this. All about the attitude right? I really need to look on the bright side though. I didn't lose any data, it's not my only computer and it's not a lost cause(like my other one).

Is technology this much of a bear to anyone else?

Seven Wonderful Cereals

Welcome to Thursday.  It is the day before your beloved Friday.  It has always been a hard day to get through for me.  I have a few tricks though.  One of them is to eat something that makes me happy.

Cereal makes me happy. Sugar loaded, processed, colorful boxed kids cereal really makes me happy.  I am not a kid, just an awesome young adult.  I really like it.

With milk or without.

Breakfast time.

Dinner time.

Snack time.

As soon as I get home from the grocery store with my latest find time.

These are the times I enjoy my favorite cereals.  That's not to say these are my favorites, I refuse to nail that list down.  These are just 7 cereals that are making me drool as I type this.

Seven Wonderful Cereals:
  • Frosted Mini Wheats.  These are pretty much the best cereal.  Completely snack-able as a dry cereal, fantastic as a milk soaked treat.  I always liked the BIG ones that couldn't fit on the spoon but I feel like they cost too much for too little.  They even seem kinda healthy.  Probably a lie.
  • Cinnabon Cereal.  This is a true marketing gem.  Never heard of this cereal before it called my name from the endcap at my local grocery store.  "DEVYN!"  I ran to it, like a crazed person does.  I saw the magnified, edited photo on the cover and decided I must consume that cereal. What? Its on sale 2 for 4?  My destiny was sealed.  I ate that first box in 3 days.  The second I saved for another week and ate it just as rapidly.  Its perfectly crunchy, cinnamony, doesn't grate your gums and doesn't get all nasty when soggy.  Could it be my best impulse buy yet?
  • Cocoa Puffs.  I love to drink the milk my cereal marinates.  Any cereal!  My parents used to make us drink the milk before we could be finished with breakfast so it became a habit.  Now I do it by choice and cocoa puffs are the BEST milk marinaters.  They turn it into legit chocolate milk.  Also they are crunchy and delicious.  Yes I just called cereal "milk marinaters", that is the cereal's purpose in life.
  • Life.  Speaking of life, another great cereal.  I love the little sugar granules that you can see through the weaved cereal fibers.  I love to eat this dry almost as much as I love to eat it with almond milk.  There is just a specific ratio that must be adhered to of marination time.  It can't be too long, otherwise your cereal is mush at the end.  That must be avoided.
  • Cinnamon Toast Crunch.  How do they make those awesome swirls?  Its like magic.  Sugar coated cereals are a shoe in with children it seems, but I like to lick off the sugar and then eat this cereal dry.  The texture of this delicacy in milk is unparalleled in the world of cereal, though.  I'd rather eat this cereal than the actual cinnamon toast.  Remember when they made French Toast Crunch?  A disaster, the likes of which I hope to never witness again.  Do not mess with a good thing.  When will they learn?
  • Apple Jacks.  Hooray for food coloring!  Are these actually supposed to taste like apples?  I don't think they taste like apples.  They taste like cinnamon.  The fact that they are rings and have random red specks really works for me though.  And again, delicious milk product at the end.  Finish strong!
  • Lucky Charms.  Who else eats the cereal part and saves the marshmallows for the end?   Who else wishes they made a limited run of marshmallow only boxes?  I think the marshmallows taste different too.  Like the blue moons taste weird compared to the pots of gold.  Not to mention the funky purple horseshoes and those rotten red balloons.  I solve that problem by eating all marshmallows at once, because lets be honest, its the texture that brings it home.  Hearts, stars, horseshoes, clovers and blue moons, pots of gold and rainbows and me red balloons!(catchy, right?)
Honorable Mentions include: Honey Bunches Of Oats w/Peaches, Honeycomb, Team Cheerios, and Reese's Peanut Butter Crunch.

Do not talk to me about Trix or Fruit Loops. I do not even want to hear it.

Am I crazy?  Do you enjoy cereal as much as I do?

Seven Ways To Say Seven

Hola!

I have a silly post for you today.  It didn't require a lot of thought or thinking but it is incredibly fascinating.  I love languages and people who speak them.  I enjoy learning vocabulary in many languages!

I can count to 10 in several languages: English, Spanish, French, German, and sometimes Latin( I usually have to think about it...).  I just can't speak any languages fluently other than English.  Yes I'm Mexican.  No  I don't know Spanish.  Yes I am ashamed.  No I don't want to talk about this anymore.

Let's say seven in many ways.

Seven Ways To Say Seven:
  • Seven.   English first!  Seven rhymes with heaven, Devyn, eleven and some other words!  Yes it is my favorite number.  Shocking, right?
  • Shichi/Nana.  There is a Japanese lady at my work.  Hi Masayo!  She speaks the language.  She teaches us all kinds of crazy things and she says them in ways we can easily remember.  "Don't touch my mustache"  is how I remember how to say you're welcome.  Its actually "Douitashimashite".  I asked her how to say seven and she said there are two ways.  They are pronounced exactly how they are spelled.
  • Siete.  Spanish is one of the prettiest languages I have ever heard.  Saying siete is easy and makes you sound fancy!
  • Sept.  I took French for fun in high school.  An extra class as a senior because I was THAT kid.  It helps a lot with my career and understanding what certain things are.  But why is sept seven and sept-ember is the 9th month?  Not cool with me(born in september).
  • VII.  Roman numerals are just cool.  I love to write years in roman numerals.  Like, MCMLXXXVII for example.
  • Sieben.  German is easily one of the scarier languages.  Like when a man is yelling in German its much scarier than English or Spanish or whatever.
  • Septem.  Latin, the root of all languages.  Again with the similarities to September.  Can anyone explain this to me?

There ya go.  A quick bit of learning to start the day off right!  Don't touch my mustache.

Do you know any others?  Italian maybe? Chinese? Polish? Teach me!!!!
