I'm getting older. Yep. My birthday is coming up. I am so looking forward to finally being old enough to drive! Just kidding. A lady never shares her age though. Lets just say its more than 5 and less than 40.
In true to Devyn fashion, I begged everyone I know to write me a post for my birthday week that I could share with you all and hopefully earn myself a week off! I love to see how others interpret the 7 theme and it has been a success as far as I'm concerned. It needs to be said that I have not paid these people for their services or actually thanked them. They have had no real incentive to do this, my jedi mind skills are just. that. good.
Starting off my birthday week, I have a post written by Steph, you remember her from here. You can generally find her commenting relentlessly on damn near every single post I put up on here. She has been a fan from day one and I am pleased to present to you her exact post, no edits, no censorship, straight up facts! Enjoy!

FUN TO CHATTER WITH – And we would get in trouble for it as well. We worked at the library together and we’d chatter away while in the back sorting the books. I don’t understand why we got in so much trouble - we still did twice as much work as everyone who wasn’t talking. But anyway, we could talk forever and it made life much more fun and interesting.
FREE DESSERT BUFFET – Devyn catered my wedding for FREE. Who does that? What a great friend. She made a marvelous spread for my dessert buffet at my reception. THANKS DEVYN! I am still mad that I didn’t getting any of the cheesecake…
INSPIRES LAUGHTER – This woman makes me laugh FOREVER! She is so witty. I just love it.
PARTNER IN CRIME – I am not one to do sneaky things, but once upon a time we had this supervisor who really needed to lighten up and also was incapable of remembering anything. We decided to help her with that little problem and proceeded to put post it notes chalk full of reminders ALL OVER HER DESK AND COMPUTER! It was AWESOME! She didn’t really appreciate it, but it was hilarious. I don’t think it helped her to lighten up, but we should get some Good Samaritan awards for trying…
STICKS AROUND – Devyn is a constant friend. She has stuck around me for the past 7 years, when we very easily could have parted ways. She shows interest in my life and lets me in on hers. Devyn is AWESOME.
INDEPENDENT LADY – I have always admired Devyn’s attitude. How would you describe it? She just is certain of who she is and she shows it. She goes after what she wants and she does well at whatever she wants to do. You inspire me to be more independent and to accomplish some amazing things.
FRIEND FOR LIFE – Devyn is a person who I want around for life. She is funny, witty, smart, caring, inspiring – just the type of friend that everyone should have.

Seven Guilty Pleasures

Welcome to pre-Wednesday. Post-Monday. Also known as Tuesday.
Today I don't have one of my pre planned posts. I am writing this one off the cuff. I like to do it that way every once in a while. Can you tell the difference?
Between my stream of thought posts vs. my pre meditated posts?
You'll soon have a few days break from me and my words, though! I'm about to take a week off and you'll be graced with several posts by my friends and avid fans of this blog.

In the meantime, I've got my guilty pleasures for ya!
Seven Guilty Pleasures
Lazy Days. I used to hate sitting around doing nothing all day. Especially since I bought my house. There is always something to be done or to be doing. I always liked to be out and around too which normally led to me spending money unnecessarily. Nowadays I've figured out a couple things: stay at home = cheap. Do nothing for an entire day = allowed every once in a while because all those "things" will still be there tomorrow.
Thin Mints. Girl scout cookies. Do I really need to explain this? I've eaten an entire box in a sitting before. This taught me two things: 1) I'm a fatty! Which is kinda amazing when you think about it. That's like 40 cookies. 2) I have a high tolerance for guilt, as in I feel bad about it for a bit but get over it. This is a great development.
Trips To Home Depot. Sounds silly, I know. I spent a lot of money here over the past 15 months. I love tools, I love doing all of my own home improvement. Going here is a massive test of my ability to NOT buy things. I go when I'm alone and I wander for too long. I carry things around and most of the time I put them back. So weird, right? Not if you know me...
Breakfast For Dinner. I've had a torrid love affair with french toast as long as I can remember. And pancakes. And waffles. And toast. Don't forget the sausage and bacon too. Smothered in syrup. Oh yeah. Forget breakfast for dinner, I'm thinking breakfast or starvation.
Chick Flicks/Rom-Com's. My personality doesn't really work with this notion. If you know me really well, as the entire interwebs is about to, its no secret that I am a big ol' romantic. I have seen my faves WAY too many times to mention. I have fantasies about my life turning into its own little chick flick/romantic love story. I've got the -com part DOWN, ya'll.
Being Right. Maybe I shouldn't say this. Probably I will look like a giant ass when I say this. Could it be I'm just saying what a lot of people don't like to admit? I love to be right. I love to be correct. I rarely argue a point I'm not certain of. I don't like to prove people wrong or be mean about it, but I like to be right at the end of the day. Are we still friends?
No Pants Day, all the days. Yep. I said it. This probably falls under the category of too much information. When I am home, and alone I generally am in my chonies. Skivvies. Underroos. Whatever you call them. I don't know where this fixation came from, have a few ideas, but that's not for you to know.
Methinks you know too much anyways.

Seven Thoughts Ten Years Later
I was really conflicted about posting anything today. I considered skipping the day completely. I contemplated creating a cheesy image with cliche words on it.
I kept coming back to this picture. I remember how my heart dropped when I first saw it all those years ago. It still stops me dead in my tracks and I know I'm not alone feeling that. I chose to post this picture, as it evokes some pretty strong emotion among Americans, even now, 10 years later.
I was going to skip the words all together, but as I sat down to post a single photo, I felt compelled to tell you seven things. I know we all remember exactly where we were when we heard the news. I know it affected everyone and in many different ways but when I stop to think back 10 years, this is what comes to my mind.
Seven Thoughts About Ten Years Ago
- Ten years ago I was just barely a teenager, a freshman in high school who's biggest concern was where her favorite jelly bracelets were and just how many rings was too many.
- Ten years ago I was on a bus on my way to school listening to horrified newscasters attempt to maintain composure and convey messages without sending the country into a panic.
- Ten years ago I found my American pride amongst the heroes and the victims and the sense of community that I felt for a solid year afterward. It still dwells in me.
- Ten years ago I lost my faith in people.
- Ten years ago I realized how the good people can outweigh all of the awful people.
- Ten years ago my lifelong faith in God was tested and I'm not sure it ever fully recovered.
- Ten years ago I became obsessed with news coverage and seriously considered a career in journalism and now ten years later I am writing a silly daily blog.

Seven Beloved Shows From The 90s
Pepper Ann- Also most of ABC's One Saturday Morning. Including Recess and Doug. I loved these shows. I used to wake up in the morning, fix some Eggo waffles and sit and watch OSM. Pepper Ann was more geared towards girls, always entertaining. Recess was amazing. Kids getting into all sorts of shenanigans. I loved the Ashley's. And Doug, well really doesn't need an explanation. Patty Mayonnaise was awesome. Kids cartoons suck compared to these. For reals.
Clarissa Explains It All- Melissa Joan Hart in her teen years. She narrated this show, talking to you, the viewer. Her family was crazy and her best friend, Sam, always used a ladder and climbed through her bedroom window....kinda weird in hindsight but also kinda cool. I loved her clothes...they were so wacky but made her, her.
The Secret World of Alex Mack- Do you remember this show? Do you know who Alex Mack is? Larisa Oleynik. She was in 10 Things I Hate About You. Do you know what GC-161 is? It's the chemical in the truck that almost hits her and gives her super powers. She could like zap light out of her fingers and turn into this silver liquid....this show should come back as reruns.
California Dreams- Not many people know this show. If you do, you move to the top of my list. It came after the amazing show Saved By The Bell. But that's a different topic. This was about a random array of high school kids who had a band....called the Dreams...it took place in California....can you guess why it has the title it does? I didn't like Sly...he really creeped me out.
Dharma and Greg- I loved this show. My mom and I used to watch it together. A quirky free spirit sees a handsome uptight lawyer at the train station. They lock eyes, go have pie and get married. They moved in with each other and have to deal with each others different lifestyles. Every character was interesting and hilarious in their own ways.
TGIF including Boy Meets World, Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Two of a Kind, Hangin' with Mr. Cooper- Raise your hand if you loved TGIF*raises hand*. I know this is cheating because its not just one show but i cant just pick one. First, Boy Meets World....who was not in love with Sean? I know I was. And Topanga was hilarious and had an awesome name. LOVE THIS SHOW. Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Melissa Joan Hart in her mid to late teenage years. She was a witch and going through high school...not easy. But she had a hot friend/boyfriend in Harvey. Plus the totally real looking cat, Salem. Ok Two of a Kind was a show with Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen. I loved anything with them in it. A single dad raising twins who get a "nanny" who helps take care of the girls. And finally, Hangin' with Mr. Cooper. An ex NBA player moves in with his two friends and becomes a substitute teacher. You know what I remember most about this show....in-between scenes, cars would drive by and there would be colorful little squiggles behind the cars...don't ask me why I loved this, but I did.
Walker Texas Ranger- ok so I know that this is a really odd show for a kid to watch....but I absolutely LOVED this show. I was head over heels for Chuck Norris, pre Chuck Norris jokes. I used to go up to the tv and kiss it when he came on. So weird, but I am what I am. You can make fun of me all you want but the fighting scenes were kick ass and the plot wasn't too bad.
Sooo...she kissed the TV...did you? I never did. Strange girl... she also said she had to "fix" waffles.
